Say My Name: Stories of Journey and Identity

What are the stories that reside in our names? And how do our names define us? This March we bring you four stories rooted in names, and the journeys we take to define and defend who we are. From a young man’s playground battle to defend the name given to him on another continent, to a woman struggling to make peace with the parts of her mother now living inside her, this month we ask you to say our names, as we bring you stories of journey and identity.

2nd Story at Revolution Brewery

Doors open at 6 pm, unlimited tasting of food and craft beers from 6-8 pm.

Join us in the Brewer’s Lounge at Revolution Brewery for an evening of our some of our favorite stories, by some of our favorite tellers, about one of our favorite subjects: Family.  Darwyn Jones will spin a tale about truth and lies in the family dynamic, Margaret Marion will share her story about sisterly love (and competition), and CP Chang will meditate on the search for faith and religion in a relationship.  All that story greatness against a backdrop of two hours of tasting of Revolution’s signature beers and tasty food.  How can you resist?

2nd Story at Story Week

2nd Story is thrilled to return to Story Week! Join us at the legendary Buddy Guy’s Legends as we kick off Chicago’s critically acclaimed festival of readings, conversations, panels, performances, book signings, and film screenings. Presented annually by the Fiction Writing Department at Columbia College Chicago, this year’s Story Week celebrates Voice and Vision, and 2nd Story can’t wait to join in with four new stories that examine when, and how, we’ve been given voice. From a woman thrown in jail for the first time, to a veteran cast member of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, this show will inspire you to yell and sing and share your own.

Tough Guys Talk Tough: Stories of Image and Action

Doors open at 7pm. Stories begin at 7:30pm.

Chicago is a world famous ‘tough guy’ town. From Al Capone to Mike Ditka, the Chi has always embraced the image of the tough guy. But what happens when an individual’s actions don’t exactly match their tough guy persona? This month, 2nd Story will explore this image through the lens of the personal, with stories by, for, and about the ‘tough guy.’ From a man learning to draw the line with a new flame to a woman brushing full-on against the limits of revenge, this March we break out the scowls and explore what it really means to be tough.

Curated by Andrew Reilly. Directed by Dorothy Milne. Sound Design by Nick Kawahara.
