Kate Hawbaker-Krohn is a performance poet, theatre practitioner, and community organizer. Her work hinges on the LGBTQ experience, as does many of her workshops. She has developed performance curriculum and writing workshops (WORDPLAY) for the LGBTQA Youth population through The University of Iowa ARTSHARE Program and Working Group Theatre’s POETRY: PROAM (partnered with IOWA YOUTH WRITING PROJECT). Other credits with Working Group Theatre include: MAKE IT BETTER, IOWA (a theater for the oppressed program to combat LGBTQ bullying NOW…instead of eventually); Development Director and Co-Founder of WAS THE WORD (a non profit community night of storytelling, poetry, and music); and Director of THE POSTCARD PROJECT (an interactive, community art installation); and founder of WAS THE WORD: AFTER DARK. She received her BA in Creative Writing and American Studies from The University of Iowa and was a Fiction Fellow in the Irish Writing Program. She currently lives and works in Chicago as a theatre maker, marketer, and community organizer.
