Betsy Vandercook

Betsy Vandercook is thrilled to be working again with 2nd Story. The last time was in 2015, when she performed the story, “Leaving Oz,” describing moments of her anti-war activism in college and its personal consequences. In between she has performed twice at Lifeline’s Fillet of Solo Festival, the Side Project Storytelling Festival, and several events sponsored by the Rogers Park Arts Alliance.

Raised in Park Ridge, Illinois, Vandercook was in the same class as Hillary Rodham Clinton, and like Hillary, is no stranger to politics, albeit on a more local level. She enjoys writing and telling stories about her old classmate, not only because Hillary’s life seems to be of interest to almost everyone, but because telling the stories opens a window to the questions of the personal and the political, celebrity, memory, and the paths our lives take.
